the (best) books of 2024: or, everyone else is doing it, so why can’t i?

I read stuff this year. Obviously. I also love making lists. It fills my heart with glee to use bullet points. So I’ve made a list of the books I read (to completion) this year, and I’ve bolded and underlined my top 10 favorites. This does not include audiobooks (though I don’t listen to very many of those), re-reads, or comics/graphic novels (because I read a metric crap-ton of comics, and that’s what my League of Comic Geeks account is for. No, I won’t tell you what my username is).

Nonfiction books are marked with an asterisk.

  • The Ancient City* – Peter Connelly and Hazel Dodge
  • Artificial Condition – Martha Wells
  • The Atomic Chef* – Steven Casey
  • The Best of All Possible Worlds – Karen Lord

  • Gardens of the Moon – Steven Erikson
  • the Gentleman Bastard series (complete) – Scott Lynch
    • The Lies of Locke Lamora
    • Red Seas Under Red Skies
    • The Republic of Thieves

  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View – Various authors
  • The Talented Mr. Ripley – Patricia Highsmith
  • Trust the Plan* – Will Sommer
  • We Sold Our Souls – Grady Hendrix
  • World War Z – Max Brooks

That’s 45 books! Not bad, not bad.

Technically, the Gentleman Bastard sequence is not complete, but I’ve put that in the same box as the other fantasy series that I don’t expect to be finished any time soon. If ever I should open that box and find a new book inside, I will probably faint.

About Me

Just an author with dreams of grandeur and a lot of hubris to spare. Occasionally, I’ll share news and talk about what’s on my mind. It’s almost like that’s what blogs are for.
